Can You Wax Your Vinyl Wrapped Car?

People often wonder if it is possible to wax a vinyl-wrapped car. The answer is yes,

but waxing a vinyl-wrapped car is a bit different from waxing a car with regular paint. Here are some essential things you need to know before waxing a vinyl-wrapped car:

1.Wait until the wrap has cured

It is crucial to wait until the wrap has fully cured before you wax it. Waiting for the wrap to cure ensures that it is firmly bonded to the car, and the wax won't cause any damage.

2.Use a wax that is safe for vinyl

Using a wax that contains harsh chemicals or abrasives can damage the vinyl wrap, leading to peeling or discoloration. It is essential to choose a wax that is specifically designed for vinyl-wrapped cars. When buying wax, ensure that it does not contain dyes or petroleum-based products.

3.Hand waxing is the best option

For vinyl-wrapped cars, hand waxing is the best option. The wax should be applied using a soft microfiber cloth or applicator pad. Avoid using an orbital polisher or buffer as it can cause damage to the wrap.

4.Thoroughly clean the car before waxing

Before applying the wax, ensure that the car is clean and free of any dirt or debris. Use a gentle cleaning solution or soap and water to wash the car. Let it dry completely before waxing.

5.Wax the car in sections

When waxing the car, work on it in sections to ensure that the wax is applied evenly. Wipe off any excess wax before it dries and move to the next section.

6.Regular maintenance is important

Waxing a vinyl-wrapped car helps to protect it from UV rays and maintain its beauty. However, regular maintenance is still crucial to keep the car looking good. Avoid using harsh cleaning agents, high-pressure washers, or abrasive materials.

Please keep in mind that applying wax coating might not be suitable for every vinyl wrapped car. The glossy vinyl wrap is compatible with wax application as it can enhance its shine and preserve its look. However, the matte vinyl finish cannot be waxed as it is not designed to show a high gloss appearance and it can damage the vinyl if done so. Additionally, it is not advisable to apply wax on textured, chrome, satin or metallic vinyl wraps. Hence, using wax on these types of vinyl wraps should be avoided.

As a final point, we advise against the use of wax on car vinyl film as it may accelerate the aging process and result in scratches when buffed or polished. It is recommended to avoid any abrasive products or high-speed buffing equipment as they may damage the vinyl film.
